Overview

This unit builds further on Speech Pathology Assessment Practices 1 and 2 by focusing on the interpretation of data gathered through speech pathology assessment. The unit will draw on various frameworks, including evidence-based practice and the International Classification of Functioning, related to the diagnosis of communication and/or swallowing needs and the impact on the individual, their family, and their communities. Students will apply these frameworks within inquiry, case based, simulation and reflective learning activities.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Synthesise analysis of assessment data and interpret findings;
  2. Evaluate relevant prognostic information associated with a case using the evidence-based practice, principles and processes;
  3. Interpret evidence-informed practices to identify gaps in assessment information and justify methods for gathering further information;
  4. Justify candidacy for further speech pathology management and interventions and/or other services as appropriate; and
  5. Collaborate effectively and negotiate differences and potential conflicts in a proactive and respectful manner.
