Overview

The aim of this unit is to introduce the history and development of chiropractic in relation to the broader health care environment, exploring the concepts of evidence-based practice, professionalism, regulation, scope of practice, and culturally responsive health care. Multimedia observations of chiropractors in clinical practice with reflective exercises will provide students with the opportunity to start developing skills in reflective practice and foster their awareness of the importance of lifelong learning.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the chiropractic professional framework and scope of practice through the lens of evidence-based practice;
  2. Analyse the stages of reflective practice and apply them in the context of their foundational understanding of person-centred care;
  3. Articulate understanding of the need for culturally responsive health care practice; and
  4. Participate in an academic community through reflective and critical engagement in academic texts and understanding of principles of academic integrity.
