Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify resource requirements, plan development and create content for language resources to assist student learning where English is an additional language.
The unit applies to education support workers who operate under the guidance and supervision of a teacher or other educational professional. They work mainly with students in classroom settings in primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
*research resource requirements for two different audiences or purposes
*contribute to production of two language resources according to organisational standards using correct:
-grammar
-spelling
-punctuation.

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:
*sources of existing language resources
*community languages and dialect variations in work community
*community protocols for researching and using languages in the community
*issues associated with language ownership in communities
*organisational guidelines and procedures for development and production of learning resources
*technologies used for resource development and their key features
*evaluation and feedback strategies.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system. Students will be provided with two texts books to assist with their learnings: • Karen Kearns Supporting Education text book • English Grammar
