Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify and meet legal and ethical obligations. This includes the ability to recognise potential and actual examples of non-compliance with regulatory requirements and contribute to the continuous improvement of practice.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
• complete one work activity in at least four of the following areas of practice, demonstrating fulfilment of legal and ethical obligations:
• health, safety and wellbeing
• incidents, injury, trauma and illness
• response to medical condition
• emergency response
• governance and leadership
• physical environment
• staffing arrangements
• develop appropriate responses to at least three different legal or ethical issues or dilemmas relevant to the work role.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
