With a strong background in science, health and business, Debbie Ruiz’s MBA has given her the edge in her role as revenue manager at Western Health.
“The MBA at VU presented the opportunity to learn the high-level fundamentals of business, and further advance my career.
I gained a lot from the different perspectives of my classmates. The diversity of the students – coming from all ages and backgrounds – helped me learn about different cultures, and business interactions I wouldn’t typically have in my professional life.
I was a self-confessed nerd in class! But I couldn’t help it – I just loved contributing and learning from others.
I also loved studying in the vibrant atmosphere of the CBD – I felt like I was part of the action.
Economics and accounting were challenging for me, so I sought additional help for those. The lecturers were always really supportive and responsive. I also overcame my fear of presenting through the participation-heavy, and hands-on elements of the course.
Since I studied science after school, I’ve always worked in the health sector – from medical imaging, audiology, and into business management roles.
Now I feel so fortunate to have my two career passions collide to create my dream job.”
