In 2001, Jaddan Comerford began his studies with VU and started a small music business. Today, his company UNIFIED has an annual revenue of more than $7 million. UNIFIED has signed the likes of Vance Joy, Amy Shark, Violent Soho, Illy, and The Amity Affliction.
“I got a great education at VU – particularly on the business side. The music industry is very creative and not always focused on the technical side of business, so completing this degree was very helpful.
I’m proud to be a business owner. I started my first company in 2001, the same year I started at VU, and we now have four offices in Melbourne, Sydney, LA and London. Our company is one of Australia’s fastest growing independent music companies encompassing management, label, publishing, touring, festivals and merchandise to a diverse roster of esteemed acts. We’ve signed some game-changing artists including Vance Joy, Amy Shark, Violent Soho, Illy and The Amity Affliction.
While at VU I attended a guest lecture by Ian James, who runs Mushroom Music, and I was able to connect with him one-on-one. He was one of the first people in the music industry to give me the time of day and we work together to this day.
My time at VU gave me the opportunity to grow as a person and business owner - I just loved having that time between high school and the real world. I’ve certainly overcome challenges and setbacks while building my business from the ground up, but I’ve surrounded myself with good people and worked hard and I feel like I’m making some real progress.
Right now I’m based in Los Angeles, California and oversee 35 staff worldwide. My next goal is to continue to grow my business on a global level.”
