After returning to study to pursue her passion for nutrition, Sarah Boykett has followed her dream of becoming a dietitian through the support and mentorship of VU’s teachers.
"I was a mature-age student with three small children when I returned to study at VU. I’ve always had a strong interest in food and exercise, so after 12 years working in PR and communications, I decided to take the leap.
From my first day at VU, I knew I had found my place. The support from staff made a huge difference. They were inspirational in terms of their own achievements and expertise, and were so willing to assist and mentor me throughout my degree.
The community education opportunities in third year gave me invaluable practical experience in interacting with local communities. This kind of learning gives VU students a vital competitive edge over other graduates and has really made my résumé stand out. Not many other nutrition degrees offer so much practical learning and I feel more confident for having had that.
I’m now completing a Masters of Dietetics and am on the way to realising my dream of becoming a dietitian, which would not have been possible without my excellent undergraduate education and support from VU. I also use my PR and communications skills to write food-related media content, helping food companies with evidence-based nutrition messaging."
