When Calypso Waddell’s study preferences changed, VU accommodated her course switch. After a semester abroad, and with the help of VU’s support and teaching staff, she was able to find employment in her desired field.
"After graduating from high school, I completed a Certificate IV in Residential Drafting. I soon realised that I wanted to pursue a higher level of education and so moved to Melbourne from Albany to start university.
Initially I wanted to study a Bachelor of Business with a specialisation in Event Management and found VU to be one of the few universities to offer this course, so I enrolled in 2013. Halfway through, I realised it wasn’t for me, so I switched to Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance).
As part of my studies I had the opportunity to do a semester abroad at Leeds Becket University. I found this to be very beneficial academically as I was exposed to some excellent teachers as well as a different classroom environment and structure.
The best thing about VU was definitely the teaching staff. In particular I had a few really great teachers who agreed to act as references for me and made a huge difference to my study. I also enlisted the help of VU career advisors who looked over my resume. With their help, I was able to find a job as a paraplanner for a small financial services company. One day I plan to move into Business Administration and may consider further study to help me achieve this."
