With his sights set on a globally recognised Australian degree, international student Shuyan Hu left his home country of China in 2014 to study at Victoria University.
"The diploma was very interesting and we had lots of lab-based learning," Shuyan says.
One of several pathway diplomas offered by VU College, the IT course enabled Shuyan to enter the second year of the Bachelor of Information Technology at VU, which he is now studying.
"This is what I enjoy most about VU; the different styles of study," he says.
"At VU we study in many different ways. We have group studies and also self-studies, which makes the course really interesting and easier to learn."
Providing direct entry into the second year of the relevant bachelor degree, these diplomas offer students more one-on-one time in the classroom, access to the same services and support as their undergraduate counterparts, and lower tuition fees than the first year of a bachelor degree.
With a vibrant social calendar – on and off campus – Shuyan says he is "really enjoying" his time at VU.
"It’s a fun university to be a part of, and Melbourne is a great city to live in.
"My advice to other international students is to relax and enjoy Melbourne while they’re here."
