Study at VU

Passionate about music and mental health

After a string of awards for contributions to the wellbeing of people living with mental illness, and founding the Madison Dyer Pay it Forward Award for students overcoming adversity, Maddy Dyer is now pursuing her love for music at VU.

I chose VU because of its eclectic and stimulating music program, and wonderful collaborative prospects on offer from the faculty and student body. Coming from a rural area with limited music opportunities, I wanted to be immersed in a culturally diverse music environment, and branch out from my classical violin background.

VU’s vibe is vibrant and stimulating from an academic and musical perspective, with many creative and innovative learning opportunities. The extra support for first year students was extremely helpful - the CALD social groups in particular were very welcoming. I feel lucky to have access to a talented and accessible academic team in the BA program who encourage and inspire. They are wonderful role models and supportive of long-term goals.

Right now I’m preparing for my second year at VU. I’d like to volunteer at my local library and provide support for musicians and staff wanting to use Sound Studio. I’d be keen to run some library workshops for young adults in basic sound engineering, too.
