Bachelor of Education (P-12)

Now Assistant Principal of Romsey Primary School, Bachelor of Education graduate Kimberley Nicholls credits VU for providing a wealth of practical experience and developing leadership skills.

“I chose VU because the Bachelor of Education (P-12) offered the most practical placement (professional practice days) in schools. I knew that the more practice I got in schools, the better teacher I would be. Now, as an assistant principal, I can say that we enjoy having student teachers from VU because they are very well prepared by their course and supported by their lecturers.

During my course, I worked at four local primary schools in Sunbury and Melton. On top of these primary placements, I also attended a secondary college for secondary teaching practice. All of these schools were very welcoming, allowing me to undertake extra days and strengthen bonds with the school community.

After graduating I worked at various schools in the west and north of Melbourne before landing team leader and lead teacher roles.

I moved into my current role 18 months ago. As well as overseeing staff and curriculum, working with parents, managing the welfare and the everyday running of the school, I mentor staff into leadership roles.

VU helped to support my leadership journey through offering courses that include leadership opportunities. My lecturers were so supportive, and the classes were relevant and up-to-date.”
