From screen to print

Lin Tobias has been selected to produce 50 prints as part of the Annual Print Commission Program.

"I started as a graphic designer and illustrator 30 years ago but was always interested in visual arts. I took several short courses before submitting a folio for the diploma program at Victoria University.

My teacher Bridget Hillebrand encouraged me to submit my work to the Print Council of Australia for the Annual Print Commission Program. The Print Council of Australia is a national organisation dedicated to Australian printmaking.

My print 'Caravan at Twilight' was chosen as one of ten finalists for the edition of 50 prints. The limited edition prints will be available for sale, and tour around Australia.

Thanks to VU's Fiona Myer Travel Grant, I travelled to the USA and UK in 2012 for nine weeks to study the art of letterpress printing. My week-long stint at Hatch Showprint workshop in Nashville was life-changing.

Apart from my graphic design business, La Bella Design, I have also started a side-venture, Hoot'n'anny – producing short-run, handprinted linocut caravan postcards on plywood which are distributed for retail through a cottage industry network."
