Karen Cortez
Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice
After migrating to Australia, Karen Cortez found her passion for migration law.
"I was born in the Philippines and completed a Bachelor of Accountancy there before migrating to Australia in 2010 through the General Skilled Migration Program.
When I arrived in Sydney, I started work as an administration assistant in a migration company. The process interested me and with observation and practical experience, I moved into a role as a migration agent assistant.
The agent I work with recommended VU for my studies. The migration law program has the best-qualified lecturers in the field and the University’s support for online and face-to-face learning was invaluable. Attending face-to-face classes at VU Sydney on weekends suited me, as this meant I could continue to work full time during the week. I also found the online discussion boards very helpful and was able to impart practical experience to my fellow students.
I gain great satisfaction from working in an area that has a life changing effect on people and look forward to establishing my own migration company in the future."
