Study at VU

Balancing study & living costs

Along with your tuition and Student Service & Amenities fee (SSAF), there are other study and living costs you'll need to consider when applying to university.

Textbooks

The cost of textbooks can vary depending on which course you’re enrolled in. Once you start at University you'll have a chance to find out more which books you'll need to purchase or if there are sufficient copies in the Library.

To find out which textbooks you might need, search for your course units and check whether there is any required reading.

Generally, the annual cost for books and stationery tends to be approximately AUD$650.

You can also buy new or second-hand textbooks from the Victoria University bookshop. If you need a textbook for only a short time, borrow it from our library.

Resources & material fees

Most VE/TAFE courses require you to buy equipment, textbooks or special clothing.

For details on specific costs per unit, view the latest list of VE/TAFE course material fees.

Most materials will be provided to you by your teacher. You will be advised on the first day of class if there is anything extra you may need to purchase.

Depending on your circumstances, these are some other costs to consider:

Parking & transport

Depending on your usage, you may also wish to budget for the following extra expenses:
