We are offering a range of fast-tracked higher education (HE) certificate courses, following the federal government’s announcement to provide additional short course places to support Australians affected by COVID-19 (as part of their Job-ready Graduates Package).

This means you can study selected courses mostly online, faster, and with HECS-HELP student loans. While most classes are delivered online, you'll need to attend some classes on campus. All classes (including online) are held at set times.

We are pleased to participate in this initiative, assisting Australians affected by the COVID-19 crisis to upskill or retrain in just one semester of study, over four units. The courses may also provide credit towards further studies.

HECS-HELP student loans

HECS-HELP student loans are available for these courses.

Multiple intake options

Most courses offered for February and July intakes. Many courses also offered for a May intake.

One semester duration

Study full time for one semester only (less than six months).

Blended delivery

A mix of remote delivery (online) and on-campus delivery.

Australian residents only

This initiative is available to domestic students (Australian residents) only.

About the courses

Eligibility

  • This scheme is available to domestic students only (not to international students).
  • To study the graduate certificates, you must hold an Australian Bachelor degree in any discipline (or equivalent, relevant work experience).
  • Other university admissions requirements still apply, for both undergraduate and graduate certificates. See the relevant course for more details.

Study duration & mode

The majority of these courses will be offered over four units via VU’s award-winning Block Model – one unit at a time over four weeks, across one semester (less than six months). This means that rather than juggling multiple units, you focus on each unit before moving on to the next.

With its focused timetables and smaller, collaborative classes, VU’s Block Model gives you more time to connect with your peers, lecturers and industry partners, helping you to build strong professional networks.

Classes are delivered predominantly via remote delivery (online).

Start & completion dates

  • February, May or July for most undergraduate certificates.
  • February or July for most graduate certificates.
  • You must complete your HE short course before the end of 2021.

Fees

HECS-HELP student loans for commonwealth-supported places are available for these courses in 2021.

These commonwealth-supported places are a response to the financial hardship faced by people affected by the COVID-19 crisis, and who are looking to upskill or retrain in 2021. If you do not complete the relevant units by the end of 2021, subsequent units will be charged at the current standard rates. Learn more about fees.

Qualification

At the completion of your course, you will receive an award certificate. In addition:

  • with all undergraduate certificates you can progress into a bachelor degree with 48 credit points
  • with most postgraduate certificates you can progress into a graduate diploma or masters degree with 48 credit points.

Why study in 2021?

In 2021, the government is subsidising select certificate award courses for domestic students, making them significantly more affordable.

They're also offering the HECS-HELP loan scheme – so you can study now, pay later through your tax.

So, what are you waiting for? Apply for a higher education certificate and boost your CV in 2021!
