About Sue Dodd

Sue is a lecturer in Arts and Humanities in the College of Arts, Education, Business, Law and IT teaching across various programs and courses.

Sue has been active in senior leadership roles at Victoria University including Head of Arts and most recently Director of Learning and Teaching (2021-22). She has also chaired degrees including the Bachelor of Arts.

Sue is passionate about Creative Arts, Culture and Gender equality and teaches in Visual Art, Screen Media, Digital Media and Gender Studies. Sue is an interdisciplinary artist working in video, performance, sound and installation and has exhibited nationally and internationally.

Teaching activities & experience

Sue enjoys teaching a range of units in Creative Arts, Visual Art, Digital Media and Media Communication working with students studying courses including the:

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Screen Media
  • Bachelor of Education
  • Bachelor of Education Studies.

Her curriculum is designed to incorporate inter-disciplinary teaching methodologies and technology that forefront practical, project-based experiences designed to empower students for successful and creative future work. She is currently unit convenor and teaching in the following subjects including:

  • ACX3007 Studio Projects 1&2. These are project based capstone units for the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Screen Media where students create creative artefacts for their portfolios such as exhibitions, podcasts, writing or screen-based work.
  • ASN2008 Narrative Worlds (previously ASN2001 Cross Media Practice). This unit explores transmedia and participatory media practices for multiple platforms incorporating a pitch for industry guests.
  • ACI3103 The Global Creative (Digital Media Major) is a subject involving students undertaking collaborative work on a global Digital Media event or product.
  • ACF3003 Digital Fine Art Photography (Visual Art Major/Minor). Using fantastic cameras students go on a location and studio shoot and create a fine art photographic series.
  • ACW2026 Gender in Popular Culture (Gender Studies Minor) unpacks gendered constructions of femininities and masculinities in a variety of old and new textual forms, including film, television, streaming sites, video games, social media, performance, art and even radio and books.
  • ASN2005 From Concept to Production (Digital Media, Screen Media). In this unit students make (and perform) their own music video, learning creative production and post-production methods.
  • ACF2003 Still Life Projects (for 2023) (Visual Art) re-conceptualises the traditional art form for contemporary cultural expression and the creation of a art folio.
  • ACF3000 Experimental Art (for 2023) (Visual Art) allows students to explore various methodologies for making art in the studio through innovative projects.
  • ACF1003 Life Drawing (for 2023) A studio-based foundation for observational art making and knowing, facilitating an understanding of human anatomy, and traditional art materials and techniques.
