About Leanne White
Dr Leanne White is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing and Course Chair of Postgraduate Marketing in the Victoria University Business School. She holds a Research Fellowship with the Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities.
She is the author of more than 60 book chapters and refereed journal articles. Leanne is the editor of Commercial Nationalism and Tourism: Selling the National Story (2017), and co-editor of The Palgrave Handbook of Dark Tourism Studies (2018), Advertising and Public Memory: Social, Cultural and Historical Perspectives on Ghost Signs (2017), Wine and Identity: Branding, Heritage, Terroir (2014), Dark Tourism and Place Identity: Managing and Interpreting Dark Places (2013), and Tourism and National Identities: An International Perspective (2011).
Leanne is a keynote speaker, reviewer of journal articles and doctoral thesis examiner. She is available for media enquiries and provides expert commentary. She currently supervises 10 doctoral students and has had five successful doctoral completions.
Leanne holds a Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) and a Master of Arts (by Research) from VU. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Education from La Trobe University and a PhD at Monash University. Leanne's doctoral thesis is titled 'Official and Commercial Nationalism: Images of Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games'.
Leanne is a proud ambassador of VU. She and her father have had a long-standing connection to Victoria University and its former institutions. Ron White taught at Footscray Technical School in the 1940s while Leanne was Footscray Institute of Technology's inaugural student of the year. Together they played a key role in VU's centenary celebrations.
