About Kofi Awuviry-newton
Dr Kofi Awuviry-Newton graduated with a PhD in Gerontology and Geriatrics from the University of Newcastle. Kofi received appointment with Victoria University as a lecturer in the College of Sport, Engineering and Health in 2022.
Prior to his appointment, he engaged in research, teaching and course development with The University of Wollongong, the Hunter Medical Research Institute (stroke unit), Western Sydney University, Acknowledge Education, and Excelsia College. Kofi is a gerontologist who employs interdisciplinary perspective (a particular focus on ageing, social work, and public health) into uncovering research evidence.
Kofi is an expert in analysing population based quantitative datasets including the World Health Organisation (WHO) study on ageing and adult health (SAGE Wave 0, 1, 2, 3) to influence research, policy and practice. He is fascinated with mixed methods approaches and employ them in research.
He is an active member and investigator of the WHO's consortium (CARETRACK) on Measuring and Monitoring the unmet health and social care needs of older adults towards achieving the WHO healthy ageing 2030 Agenda. Details on purpose and activities of CARETRACK can be found on the CARETRACK website.
Currently, Kofi is undertaking research in health social work, older migrants care needs and their experiences of racism in Australia.
