About Ehsan Yaghoubi

Dr Ehsan Yaghoubi is a senior lecturer in Civil Engineering with the College of Engineering & Science.

Ehsan is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) of the Institute of Engineers Australia in Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering. Ehsan’s area of expertise includes unsaturated soil mechanics, recycled and waste materials in geotechnical and pavement applications, pavement geotechnics, and improvement of expansive/reactive soils. 

Ehsan has been awarded two State Government funds by Sustainability Victoria which he has been leading in close collaboration with geotechnical and water industry partners. He has also been a chief investigator in several projects, including a project funded through the Victorian Higher Education Strategic Investment Fund to investigate sustainable pavement systems made of waste/recycled materials in collaboration with pavement industries and local governments. He has been a recipient of the 2021 Vice Chancellor's Award in the "Innovation" Category.

Ehsan had a leading role in the development of VU’s state of the art geotechnical and pavement laboratories and has established VU’s inaugural asphalt testing facility capable of undertaking cutting edge research on asphalt and pavement materials.

Before joining Victoria University, Ehsan worked as a Geotechnical and Pavement Engineer for a few years, where he contributed to more than 40 infrastructure projects in Australia with a range of responsibilities including project management, design, and supervision of geotechnical investigations. He has authored more than 20 industry project reports including:

  • Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal (Area 1) Geotechnical Report for Level Crossing Removal Authority
  • Inland Rail Project (T2A Section) Geotechnical Report for Australian Rail Track Corporation and KBR
  • Pavement Assessment & Design of Various Roads for South Western Alliance (VicRoads)

In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, Ehsan is the Research and Consultancy Coordinator at the College of Engineering and Science, Deputy Discipline Leader (Engineering & Science) at the Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities, and Leader at Geotechnical, Rock Mechanics and Pavement research group (Pavement Geotechnics & Recycled Materials).
