A do-it-yourself sushi bar, a multi-purpose towel and artificial grass mats were among the winning business ideas from Year 10 and 11 students competing in Victoria University's annual I Plan a Business (iPAB) contest. Award-winners were announced last night.
iPAB was developed by VU's Faculty of Business and Law as an incentive for secondary students from Melbourne's west to practise business planning skills and demonstrate their entrepreneurial capacity.
The 2010 iPAB winners are:
John Dawson - Emmanuel College, Altona North
Best Business Plan - Year 10 Individual
John's business plan involved a product called "Hide-n-Dry", a multipurpose towel with a hidden waterproof pocket.
Einar Dela Cruz, Simon Naval, Lorenzo Alforque, Emmanuel College, Altona North
Best Business Plan "" Year 10 Group
The students planned a do-it-yourself sushi bar, "Your Sushi," that allows customers to custom-make their own sushi rolls.

Ricky's business plan involved artificial grass mats which he manufactured and photographed as part of his entry.

Stephanie and Elise prepared a comprehensive business plan for a bar/night club,"Pier 59".

Kristina planned a cafe, " Ilavo", a Mediterranean-style lounge bar.
Thao Le, Linh Vu, Joseph Micallef, Jenny Luu, Linda Le and Kelly Vo - Sunshine College, Sunshine
Highly Commended Business Plan - Group
These students prepared a business plan for a cafe, "iCREPE", a crepe, coffee and dessert outlet.
Melton Shire Council Best Business Plan - Melton District - Melton Christian College
The group developed a plan for "Coo Coo Caterers" as a supplier of food and drink for their school.
