Victoria University will turn pink on Wednesday 8 October as students and staff across all campuses wear pink and join in carnival-like activities to raise money to support breast cancer patients.
WHEN: Wednesday 8 October
WHERE: Footscray Park Campus, Ballarat Rd, Bldg M Courtyard
Organisers of VU’s Pink Day 2014 hope to better last year’s inaugural efforts when the VU community, together with the generous help of local businesses, raised $11,000 for the Cancer Council.
This year VU will donate to BreastWest, a charity that supports women in Melbourne’s west undergoing breast cancer treatment at Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals. The money will be used for vouchers for practical everyday items required by breast cancer sufferers such as wigs, mastectomy bras, transport to medical appointments, and child care, as well as for the purchase of vital medical equipment.
Footscray Park Campus will be the site for the main event – a carnival of food stalls, music, raffles, lucky dips, a fashion parade, and a silent auction.
Organisers have already received generous monetary donations of about $5000 from VU students and staff, as well as from ADCO Constructions, the NAB, Nettleton Tribe, Nelson Alexander Real Estate, Bendigo Bank and Rapid Removals. Domino’s Pizza Flemington will donate $1 from every pizza sold the following day to VU’s cause.
The VU Facilities Department led by Angela Kennedy, has raised $1000 since the start of the year to support their colleague, breast-cancer survivor Renae Vojtek. Renae launched VU’s first Pink Ribbon Day last year and became its inaugural ambassador.
