Victoria University's Learning Store@Highpoint will host "Try a Trade" days on 27 and 28 October 2011 to offer shoppers a chance to learn more about being a builder, chef, welder, event planner, sign writer, hairdresser or a host of other vocations.
Shoppers can get hands-on experience with a "virtual" welder (where simulated work is displayed on 3D glasses within a helmet), see chefs make sushi, or speak with VU teachers about the wide range of apprenticeships, traineeships and short courses on offer at the University.
Highpoint General Manager Craig Osborne said the event is a good example of the kind of training, education and employment collaborations between the two organisations.
VU industry liaison officer Mary Jane Denton said the event aims to show the community that traditional trades make rewarding careers.
The media are invited to attend.
