Start a new club

Submit your idea for a new club using our online form. Applications close 13 March.

After you apply

If your club idea is approved, we will provide you with a membership form to collect registrations. We will also promote your club across various VU channels.

Once you reach 10 members, we will:

organise an Initial General Meeting (IGM) to elect your committee
provide required training
support you to begin running events and activities.

We’ll also help your committee to:

set up a club Gmail and social media accounts
access club resources
set up a club bank account.

: There are two intake periods in Semester 1. Your elected committee must complete all requirements within one of these periods. Otherwise, your club will need to reapply in Semester 2.
Period 1
IGM & affiliation paperwork: 23 February–6 March (subject to availability)
Online training (club governance & branding): To be completed by Friday 13 March
In-person event & activity training: Wednesday 18 March, 4–7pm or Friday 20 March, 11am–2pm
Period 2
IGM & affiliation paperwork: 9–27 March (subject to availability)
Online training (club governance & branding): To be completed by Friday 3 April
In-person event & activity training: Thursday 9 April, 11am–2pm or Friday 10 April, 11am–2pm

Re-affiliate an existing club

Affiliation for each club is valid from 1 December until 30 November the following year. Continuing clubs must apply to re-affiliate on an annual basis.

Re-affiliation period

Clubs are to re-affiliate by 30 November each year. This ensures that clubs are affiliated in time for important events occurring early in semester.

If you club commences after Semester 2, you will be required to re-affiliate mid year the following year.

Clubs that wish to re-affiliate will go through the process during their AGM and then submit their re-affiliation documents by the deadline, to ensure that their club can fully operate from the beginning of semester 1 or 2. Clubs cannot request their allocated funding until their affiliation forms have been received and induction training has been attended.

How to re-affiliate

Clubs that wish to re-affiliate must:

hold an Annual General Meeting and elect the Executive and General Committee for the next Clubs Term
adopt the VU Student Group Constitution and email this to [email protected]
complete all re-affiliation forms and send them to clubs by the deadline.
