Connecting to our WiFi

Staff and students can now connect to WiFi via Eduroam on all VU campuses.

Upgrades to WiFi speed at the Footscray Park, Footscray Nicholson, City Flinders and City King campuses have recently been undertaken. Remaining VU campuses will be upgraded by mid-2017.

Connect to eduroam

Access to Victoria University WiFi is available to all staff and students by connecting to the eduroam secure wireless network.

Connect to eduroam to roam and use WiFi with these three simple steps:

  1. Choose eduroam from the list of networks
  2. Enter your username in the following format s1234567@vu.edu.au (for students) or e1234567@vu.edu.au (for staff)
  3. Enter your password (same as MYVU) and accept the certificate if requested.

You should now be connected to the Internet.

After you log in the first time your device will remember your credentials and automatically login to eduroam whenever you're on campus.

Using eduroam at other universities

You can access the Eduroam wireless network across many universities in Australia and overseas by logging on with your VU username and password. Find participating eduroam institutions.

Choose your device

iPhone & iPad

  1. From the iPhone or iPad Home screen, tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi.
  2. Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on. Tap eduroam from the list of Networks.
  3. Enter your username (example: s3000000@vu.edu.au) and password in the relevant fields, then tap Join.
  4. Tap Accept or Trust to accept the Certificate.

This completes the wireless setup - a tick next to the eduroam network indicates that you have successfully connected to the eduroam wireless service.

Android

  1. Touch the settings icon to open settings.
  2. Touch Wi-Fi or Wireless & Networks and tap eduroam from the list of Networks.
  3. Enter your username (example: s3000000@vu.edu.au) and password in the relevant fields, and touch Connect.

This completes the wireless setup - a tick next to the eduroam network indicates that you have successfully connected to the eduroam wireless service

Windows 10

  1. Click the available connections icon (located bottom right hand side of your screen).
  2. Select the ‘eduroam’ network and then click Connect. Optional: check the Connect automatically for automatic connection to network when in range.
  3. Enter your username (example: s3000000@vu.edu.au) and password in the relevant fields, and click OK.
  4. When prompted with Security Alert, click connect.

Once you see 'Connected' you have completed the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your windows computer

Windows 8

  1. Click on the available connections icon (located on the bottom right hand of your screen), select the 'eduroam' network and click connect.
  2. Optional: Check the 'connect automatically' box to automatically connect to this network when in range.
  3. Enter your username (example: s3000000@vu.edu.au) and password in the relevant fields and click OK.
  4. When prompted with the security alert, click connect.

Once you see 'Connected' you have completed the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your windows computer

Windows 7

  1. Click on the available connections icon (located on the bottom right hand of your screen), select the 'eduroam' network and click connect.
  2. Enter your username (example: s3000000@vu.edu.au) and password in the relevant fields and click OK.
  3. When prompted with the security alert, click connect.
  4. You will be prompted to "Select a location for the 'eduroam' network", select the desired network (for example Public Network), alternatively you may click cancel.

This completes the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your windows computer.

Mac OS

  1. Click the wireless icon (located top right hand side of your screen) and select the 'eduroam' network.
  2. Enter your username (example: s3000000@vu.edu.au) and password in the relevant fields and click OK.
  3. When prompted to verify Certificate click continue to accept certificate.
  4. You may be prompted to authorise system changes, you will need to put in a local account name and password with administrator access.

This completes the wireless setup and you should now be able to access the Internet from your mac.
