There are opportunities for students throughout the year to be involved in leadership activities through various groups and events.
Our major event during the year is the Student Leadership Conference, but there are many other activities during the year where you can enhance your leaderships skills.
Effective group leaders are characterised by group involvement, mutual respect, and excellent communication no matter the leadership style.
Student Leadership Conference
The Student Leadership Conference is a one day event, with keynote speakers and workshops.
Organised by students for students it aims to assist you develop invaluable leadership and personal development skills for use in both your personal life and future career.
Golden Key International Honour Society
The Golden Key Society recognises students who perform within the top 15% of their College in 400 universities around the world. Golden Key members have networking and scholarship opportunities and the society promotes academics, leadership and service through the many events held at Victoria University and across the state.
Housing Mentor program
The Housing Mentor program helps international students find accommodation. To be eligible to be a housing mentor you must:
- have experience in finding accommodation for yourself
- be interested in assisting new students to find accommodation.

Peer Career Advisor (PCA) program
Peer Career Advisors (PCA's) are employed by Career Development and Employment at Victoria University. They work in the Learning Commons at Footscray Park, St Albans, City Flinders and Footscray Nicholson campuses. PCA's assist students and graduates with job application and resume reviews, and answer general career inquiries during drop-in sessions and online. As part of Career Development and Employment, they also participate in a range of career development activities.
Positions generally open for application during semester two of each year and are awarded through a competitive process on individual merit. Full training for the role is provided.
Sports Team Managers
Sports Team Managers provide a link between athletes and sport services. The primary role is to coordinate before, during and at the conclusion of events for your team.

Student Library Assistants
Student Library Assistants provide basic support on a range of library and IT matters during extended hours of opening, such as late evenings and weekends.
Student Rovers & Student Mentors
Student Rovers work within the Learning Commons, assisting students with basic information relating to core facilities, information services and computers.
Student Mentors lead weekly group sessions to support other students with specific units of student, or to help students improve their writing.

Story Writing in Remote Locations (SWIRL)
SWIRL aims to engage remote Aboriginal children in traditional and contemporary activities for the month that the project runs.
