In order to mitigate risk from COVID-19, all VU Sport managed facilities and programs, apart from University teaching and research activities, will remain closed and on-hold until further notice. 

The coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve with further responses from the Australian and State Governments as well as Victoria University.

In line with these responses, we are providing an update on the important steps being taken to ensure the wellbeing of our students, staff and community members.

Sport programs & facilities closures

Sport programs & facilities

All VU Sport managed facilities and programs will remain closed and on-hold until further notice. This notice will be updated again on Thursday 17 September 2020.

This closure includes:

VU Sport managed sport facilities

  • Footscray Nicholson Campus
  • Footscray Park Campus
  • St Albans Campus
  • Werribee Campus
  • VU Whitten Oval

VU Sport programs 

  • School holiday programs and clinics
  • Sports academies and community engagement activities
  • Fitness, personal training and group exercise classes
  • Swim school
  • Inter-university sport (Unisport updates)
  • Social sport programs

Sport activities

This suspension of activity will continue to affect the following users:

  • all affiliated University sport clubs and university sport-related activity using any Victoria University campus facility for training or competition
  • external hirers and regular user groups using VU Sport facilities
  • fitness centre members and users of the gym, fitness studios, pool or courts
  • external booking holders.

How does this affect me?

Membership payments

All Direct Debit Gym and Personal Training Memberships will be suspended and any payments made in advance for the closure dates will be credited to reduce your next debit. Your direct debits will be on hold until the Centre reopens so you will not be charged during any closure period.

All Salary Packaged Memberships will be suspended in line with the proposed closure dates. Payments will be discontinued from staff members pay as soon as it can be arranged internally and will only recommence when the sport facilities reopen.

All Term Gym Memberships will be suspended and Visit Pass Holders will have any closure time added to the end of your membership/pass.

Swim school

All Swim School lessons will cease after the final lesson on Friday March 20.

Swim School members will receive financial credit for any lessons paid in advance that was not delivered.

Direct debits will not be charged until classes recommence.

Facility hire

All facility hire usage will be cancelled during the closure period.

We will work with our bookings to reschedule lost rounds of competition and where we can, fit in additional bookings for trainings and trials if required.

As bookings are charged in arrears there will be no charge for bookings that were cancelled between 14 March and the time the facility reopens.

Special exemptions may be made for particular groups to allow classes or specific University business to occur.

Sporting club access to facilities

Sporting club access to University facilities will be suspended.

VU sport encourages clubs to follow all relevant state/national sporting body and health advice to ensure the safety of members.

Sport competitions

The University’s participation in Inter-University Sport competitions, including UniSport Australia events, is postponed until further notice. For more information visit the UniSport COVID-19 updates webpage.

While the impact of COVID-19 is still evolving, we look forward to returning to business as usual at the earliest opportunity.
