Victoria University (VU), in partnership with the Victorian Government, continues to administer the International Student Emergency Relief Fund (ISERF). This fund supports members of our international student community who are experiencing financial hardship due to loss of employment as a result of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

New eligibility criteria have been set to enable students who have lost employment, but who previously did not meet the requirements, to now be considered for the Fund. The updated eligibility criteria are listed on this page.

If you are a current Victoria University (VU) international student experiencing financial hardship, you may be eligible for support.

To apply for this grant you must:

  • currently study at Victoria University, and have enrolled on or before 31 March 2020
  • be an international student who has a student visa or bridging visa (with a student visa application in processing)
  • currently live in Victoria, Australia and be physically located in Victoria
  • have engaged in legal work in Victoria any time from March to July 2020, and have experienced exceptional circumstances of financial hardship due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Those circumstances of hardship arise from:
    • a significant reduction in hours of employment, or
    • loss of employment due to a business shutdown; and
    • you are unable to supplement lost income from other sources of financial support
  • supply documentary evidence, which can include:
    • evidence of loss of income such as correspondence between you and your employer (e.g. letters, emails, text messages, pay slips)
    • up-to-date bank statement, showing ongoing loss of income
    • statutory declaration (a written statement that you sign and declare to be true and correct in the presence of an authorised witness).

This is a one-off grant. If you have already applied for the grant, do not apply again.

Value of the grant

International students studying at Victoria University may be eligible for a grant of up to $1000 via this fund.

  • If you have already received a $500 housing crisis grant via Victoria University’s COVID-19 Student Support Fund and are now eligible for an ISERF grant, you will be awarded a further $500.
  • If you have not already received a $500 housing crisis grant via the COVID-19 Student Support Fund and are now eligible for an ISERF grant, you will be awarded $1000.

You only need to submit one application to be considered for both the ISERF and housing crisis grant.

Separate applications COVID-19 Student Support Fund housing crisis grants are now closed.
