Learn to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired control devices.

Develop skills in isolation of low voltage electrical supplies, disconnection and reconnection of control devices.

Upon completion you should be able to:

  • work safely on control devices, identifying supply arrangements
  • follow isolation procedure
  • select and use testing and measuring devices
  • terminate and connect cables and conductors to Australian Standards
  • safety test and report on control devices.

This EXCLUDES disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, light etc); or installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).

Credit for skills and past study

If you have completed study with another university or institution and believe you are eligible to receive credit for skills and past study, you can apply for advanced standing.

Course objectives

This skill set is designed for people wishing to disconnect and reconnect low voltage fixed wired control devices which are incidental or a primary and regular function of work related to a principle work function. Learners will be developing skills in isolation of low voltage electrical supplies, disconnection and reconnection of control devices. More specifically, should be able to: work safely on control devices, identifying supply arrangements; follow isolation procedure; select and use testing and measuring devices; terminate and connect cables and conductors to Australian Standards; safety test and report on control devices.

Course contents

All theoretical and practical assessments must be satisfactorily completed with 100% accuracy. Students are to be reassessed where they do not initially achieve the required standard.

Skill Set Requirements is the successful completion of both units of competency within this course:
- UEENEEE101A – Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
- UEENEEP012A - Disconnect - reconnect Composite appliances  connected to low voltage installation wiring

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course.
