Graduating with a qualification in Human Resources Management from VU Polytechnic will put you ahead of the game. You’ll learn fundamental skills you can apply in any sector, preparing you for a range of careers, including:
- human resources assistant
- human resources coordinator
- human resources administrator
- payroll officer.
The course structure is made up of following core and elective units. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
To be awarded the BSB40420 Certificate IV in Human Resource Management, a student must successfully complete a total of twelve (12) units of competency, comprising of:
- Six (6) core units, and;
- Six (6) elective units, of which:
*2 elective units must be selected from Group A
*2 elective units must be selected from Group B
*for the remaining 2 elective units:
- up to 2 units may be selected from Groups A and B - if not listed, up to 2 units may be selected from a Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma from this or any other currently endorsed Training Package qualification or accredited course.
Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

This course BSB40420 Certificate IV in Human Resource Management supports participants to develop the skills required for a range of Human resources job roles.
Responsibilities are likely to be determined at a workplace level. Some smaller organisations may require employees to work across all aspects of human resources. In larger organisations, individuals may support a single human resources function.
Individuals undertaking this course will develop skills, such as:
think in a way that supports the needs of businesses and the people within them
technical and communication skills to begin a professional role.
Through case studies, projects and group-based activities the course seeks to ensure that students develop the practical skills they need to commence work in a HR environment.

Admission & pathways
Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course. Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.
If you do not meet the minimum requirements you may be eligible for one of our special admission programs.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.As part of the application process, applicants must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) and undertake a literacy and numeracy (LN) assessment to determine suitability for admission.

You may be able to complete your qualification sooner through formal recognition of your existing skills. This is known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
