Foundation studies courses

Our foundation studies courses are developed for those in the community who would like to gain employment or go on to further education.

We offer many courses designed to help you improve your language, writing, study and numeracy skills. Our courses are aimed at young people, mature-aged students, migrants and refugees, Indigenous Australians and students with special needs.

Foundations at VU provides a path to higher-education courses, and is designed for Australian citizens and permanent residents.

International students studying in Australia on a student visa can pathway instead through our International Foundation programs (see 'Courses for International students' below).

Short courses 3 courses

Duration: 1 year

Gain work-related experience, practical knowledge and employability skills with the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

Duration: 13 weeks
Foundations at VU is a fully funded 13-week course providing Australian citizens and permanent residents with an alternative pathway, if you didn't meet direct entry requirements, to studying a higher education course.

TAFE certificates & diplomas 8 courses

Develop literacy and numeracy skills with a Certificate I in General Education for Adults at Victoria University Polytechnic.

Further develop literacy, numeracy and communication skills with a Certificate II in General Education for Adults at Victoria University Polytechnic.

Duration: 1 year

This certificate provides an alternative path to further study.

Duration: 0.5 years

In this course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to successfully transition into tertiary education and training pathways.

Duration: 1 year
This transition education program prepares young people with special learning needs for employment and further vocational education.
