Overview

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Co-existing Needs Skill Set will enable you to gain the required skills to provide services to clients with co-existing needs, including both alcohol and other drugs and mental health issues.

This course is also for people already working in the community and health industry, who focus on alcohol and drug (AOD) support and wish to have their current experience recognised.

It meets the minimum requirement set by the Department of Health and Human Services for people seeking to establish, or extend the parameters of current employment in the AOD sector within community health. It has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:

  • hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in community services, health, or related field, or
  • have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through recognition of prior learning, or
  • have substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.

Course contents

In order to be issued a Statement of Attainment, for CHCSS00092 Alcohol and Other Drugs Co-existing Needs Skill Set, a student must complete the core units.

This course is for people working in the community and health industry who focus on alcohol and drug (AOD) support, and wish to have their current experience recognised. You will gain the required skills to provide services to clients with co-existing needs, including both alcohol and other drugs and mental health issues.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Co-existing Needs Skill Set reflects the skill requirements for support workers providing services to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues.

Admission requirements

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course.

Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:

  • hold a qualification at Certificate IV level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field, or;
  • have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process, or;
  • have substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.

Prior to enrolment, all applicants will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment to assist with determining eligibility and to identify learning support needs.
