Build on your existing remedial massage skills to learn more about treating pain with an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at Victoria University Polytechnic.

This hands-on course will give you a deeper understanding of the musculoskeletal system so you can work with more complex cases and increase your career options.

You’ll learn to apply clinical reasoning to uncover the causes of joint, muscle and neuropathic pain. You’ll develop skills in myotherapy treatment for prevention, correction and rehabilitation.

Through classroom teaching and hands-on learning in the VU massage clinic, you’ll gain specialist skills in:

  • assessment, analysis and testing
  • evidence-based myotherapy practice and treatments (including dry needling, cupping and trigger point therapy)
  • client consultation, leadership and counselling
  • finance management in small business.

Completion of this course enables qualified remedial massage therapists to practise as myotherapists in their own business, or as members of a health clinic.

Myotherapy students can apply for a paid cadetship with AFL club the Western Bulldogs. Successful students are supervised by the club's medical team with the possibility of ongoing employment. The aim of the cadetship is to help launch a career specialising in myotherapy practice for elite athletes.

Everything you learn at Victoria University Polytechnic has direct links to the real world. Through hands-on learning, you’ll develop practical skills that will ensure you’re job-ready when you graduate.

You’ll gain direct clinical experience in VU’s massage clinics under the supervision of fully qualified myotherapists. This gives you the opportunity to practice myotherapy techniques on clients including students, staff and the general public, as well as Western Bulldogs players.

VU’s Learning Hubs are welcoming spaces where you can improve your study and employability skills.

Our students can attend Learning Hubs at one of five VU campuses. We offer maths, writing, careers and English-language advice, and show you effective ways to study and manage your time.

Our programs include:

  • workshops
  • drop-in sessions
  • peer mentoring
  • maths and writing resources
  • resume and career guidance.

We also have accessibility support services and counselling services available for all students.
