Professor Glyn Wittwer

PhD, BEc (Hons), BA (Uni Adelaide); AssocDip Radiological Technology (SAIT)

Professorial Fellow

Professor Wittwer has been one of the main developers of TERM (The Enormous Regional Model), a multi-regional computable general equilibrium (CGE) model devised by Professor Mark Horridge. Glyn was the first person to develop a dynamic version of TERM. He has created versions of TERM for China and the USA. The latter is now attracting interest in Washington D.C.

Although he has spent much time at the Centre of Policy Studies in model development, Glyn’s main task is applying CGE models to policy issues. He has undertaken a number of projects examining the economic impacts of urban water supply augmentation.

Another important application of TERM in Australia has been in the analysis of water buyback policies in the Southern Murray Darling Basin (SMDB) under drought conditions. This was important because water buyback policies in the basin started during drought and were blamed for drought-induced job losses.

In 2012 he was the principal contributor to and editor of a book on the theory of TERM and its applications to water policy.

Glyn has also worked on scenarios concerning hypothetical plant disease outbreaks and disaster scenarios, the closure of the motor vehicle industry in Australia and many others, including the impacts of improved transport infrastructure.
