Victoria University is delighted to appoint Professor Marcia Devlin – a globally recognised leader of change in tertiary education institutions – as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President.
Professor Devlin will arrive at VU on 4 June with strong academic and leadership abilities built over the past 26 years. She served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Quality) at Federation University from 2014 to 2017.
Since leaving Federation University she has been Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University. She has also held senior leadership roles at the University of Melbourne, Deakin University and Open Universities Australia.
Vice-Chancellor welcomes Professor Devlin to VU
Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Dawkins said:
“I’m excited to welcome Professor Devlin to VU. Professor Devlin’s impressive career has demonstrated her strong capabilities as a university leader, manager, administrator and leader of change.”
As Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Devlin will help guide the University’s significant transformational agenda and its mission to help any student from any background to be successful.
“Professor Devlin has excelled in implementing successful strategic change programs. We will work together to oversee VU’s transformation, with Professor Devlin leading our University Transformation Office,” said Professor Dawkins.
Professor Devlin an awarded leader
Professor Devlin has studied extensively in education, holding the following qualifications:
- PhD in higher education and psychology (University of Melbourne)
- Master of Education (Macquarie University)
- Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology (Swinburne University of Technology)
- Diploma in Education (La Trobe University)
- Bachelor of Arts (Australian National University).
In 2016, the Institute of Management and Leadership Australia and New Zealand awarded Professor Devlin Victorian Leader of the Year and she also received the National Women’s Agenda Leadership Award (Public Sector).
Rhonda Hawkins to return to University Council
As planned, VU’s Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President, Rhonda Hawkins, will return to her role as a member of the University Council once Professor Devlin begins.
“Rhonda Hawkins has been an inspiring leader at the University who has driven significant change for students, teachers and staff. We are thrilled that she will remain involved with the University as a member of the Council,” said Professor Dawkins.
