On Sunday 7 July nearly 100 students from our partner institutions in China - in the presence of their families and friends - graduated in a ceremony held in Beijing.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Dawkins presided over the event and Professor Colin Clark was the presenter. A large delegation of Victoria University senior staff was joined by guests from Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), Liaoning University, China Education International and Australian Management International.

At the graduation ceremony, held in the Peninsula Hotel Beijing, the occasional address was delivered by Mr Kevin Li, who is the Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient 2012. Mr Li graduated from Victoria University with a Master of Business Administration in 1996 and is now president of the South China region of the Australian Chamber of Commerce; he is also president of the Australia China Alumni Association.

A successful entrepreneur, his business ventures include Kunlun Advertising which is now the largest outdoor media operator in South China. Mr Li's achievements and position made him the perfect choice to deliver the occasional address at the graduation ceremony.

The Valedictorian for the evening was Ms Chen Mingyu, who has completed a VU Bachelor of Business (Financial Risk Management/International Trade) at the Central University of Finance and Economics.

Distinguished guests also attended a Celebration Dinner, held on the Sunday evening, hosted by the Vice-Chancellor. In addition, an Alumni High Tea was held for undergraduate students; and a Banquet Dinner for postgraduate Alumni was held the day prior to the graduation. These events provided the opportunity for staff to hear first-hand about our Alumni success and achievements.

Vice-Chancellor Peter Dawkins took the opportunity to speak about the warm relationship between Victoria University and its China alumni, and to launch in China the Blue Diamond Society, which proudly acknowledges individual alumni who make a significant philanthropic investment in Victoria University.

The VU Alumni Community gives graduates access to a range of benefits including networks with other professionals, career advice and participation in lifelong learning.
