The Mitchell Institute held its first major policy forum in late November 2013. The discussion focused on opportunities to recalibrate the school reform agenda, and generate new approaches to transform educational opportunities for all young people living in Australia.
The forum was led by a panel of leading school education experts comprising:
- Kathryn Greiner, member of the 2010 Schools Funding Review
- Dr Lisa O’Brien, CEO of The Smith Family
- Professor John Hattie, Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute at the University of Melbourne
- Dr Yong Zhao, Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon.
With the current debate on school funding setting the context, the forum generated several thought provoking discussions and has informed MI’s education research and policy program for 2014.
A policy paper will be released in February 2014. You can find out more about the forum on the Victoria University news page.
