VU has partnered with Melton City Council and Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services with funding from the Australian Government, to support the delivery of the Melton Suburban University Study Hub.

One of 15 suburban hubs funded by the Australian Government University Study Hubs Program, is a dedicated study space for all tertiary students (TAFE and university) and will offer administrative and academic support services.

The Hon. Julian Hill MP, Assistant Minister for International Education and Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, joined Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker and Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services Deputy Chair Stuart Deagan to officially launch the Hub.

The Hub provides free, campus-style facilities and academic support services, and is available to students studying with any Australian university or TAFE provider.

Located within the Melton Library and Learning Hub, and currently open during Melton Library opening hours, the Study Hub offers:

  • Quiet study spaces and modern infrastructure
  • High-speed internet, computers, and video conferencing
  • Academic and administrative support
  • Wellbeing services and career guidance
  • A welcoming, inclusive environment for all learners

Professor Shoemaker said, “We could not be more delighted to be working with Djerriwarrh and the Melton City Council on this vital initiative. Bringing real career opportunities to talented Melton students where they live is one of Victoria University’s top priorities. We could not be more grateful.”

This Study Hub addresses a long-standing need for greater access to higher education in our community,” said Ms Trish Heffernan, CEO of Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services. “It’s about giving local students the tools, space, and support they need to thrive in their tertiary journey.”

The Hon. Julian Hill MP said “I am thrilled to officially open the Suburban University Study Hub in Melton. The sense of community and practical support students receive at these Hubs helps them to excel in their studies and achieve a tertiary qualification.”
