New gamified wind turbine to inspire future energy workforce

A new gamified experience in renewable energy
Friday 6 February 2026

ACCIONA Energía and Wyndham Tech School have launched a new gamified experience to give high school students in Victoria an insight into the booming renewable energy sector.

Developed by Wyndham Tech School, a STEM learning hub hosted by Victoria University, and with expert review and input by leading renewable energy company ACCIONA Energía, ‘Mission: Turbine’ is an interactive virtual reality experience which places the user inside the tower of a wind turbine, and in the role of a turbine technician. In 2026 alone, over 2,300 high school students across 16 schools will get to tackle a range of technical challenges, including creating a safe workspace, troubleshooting connections, and communicating with the control centre.

Recent growth in the renewables sector in Victoria means thousands of jobs are on offer during development, construction and operations. The experience, supported by funding from the Department of Education, aims to inspire a generation of students to consider vital roles such as that of a turbine technician.

“The clean energy workforce needs 40,000 more workers by 2030 to support the energy transition in Australia”, said ACCIONA Energía Operations Director, Sancho Laspalas. “We are delighted to have joined forces with Wyndham Tech School and the Department of Education to highlight the wide range of exciting careers we have on offer and provide inspiration to the next generation of wind farm workers.”

“We’re proud to be working closely with Acciona Energia – this collaboration has allowed us to build a student experience that is aligned with real-world scenarios and ensures that young people are able to develop the skills which will enable them to be valuable contributors to the workforce.  We have 2,300 students from 16 schools in Melbourne’s west booked in for 2026, as part of a pathway into STEM careers” added Sam Nikolsky, Director of Wyndham Tech School.
