Victoria University (VU) celebrated the achievements of graduating students from offshore partner colleges and universities at a ceremony in the Grand Ballroom at Sunway Resort and Spa, Malaysia on Sunday 23 March 2014.

There were over 300 graduates on the day from Sunway University and other VU offshore partners including Hanoi University in Vietnam, Lithan Hall in Singapore and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Some students even travelled from Botswana to attend the celebrations.

Tim Dillon, the Victorian State Government Commissioner attended the ceremony with other distinguished guests, including senior VU staff and academics from Sunway University.

Valedictorian Mr Nico Fernando, Bachelor of Business (Accounting/Banking and Finance) spoke about the graduate’s achievements and hopes for the future.

On the evening prior to the graduation Vice-Chancellor Peter Dawkins and Chancellor of Sunway University, Tan Sri Dato Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah met with over 150 attendees for the annual VU Malaysia Alumni Celebration.

VU staff and some of the most engaged VU Malaysia Alumni also came together at the celebration event. They heard some fascinating stories about how the graduates’ families became apart of VU’s international Alumni Community.

One of the attendees at the celebration event was Alumnus Chris Loo: a Sunway graduate from 2007 who met his wife while studying the MBA program. Also there was Lee Chung Seng and Lee Peck Yoon who are brother and sister as well as VU Malaysia Alumni. The Lee family also have a third sibling currently studying at Sunway University.

The VU Alumni Community gives graduates access to a range of benefits including networks with other professionals, career advice and participation in lifelong learning.
