Victoria University will officially open a 12-storey apartment complex this Friday that provides premium accommodation for 508 students in the heart of Footscray.
UniLodge@VU is located opposite Footscray Park Campus on the corner of Tiernan Street and Ballarat Road.
It is part of the 10-year Footscray University Town project between VU and the Maribyrnong City Council to enhance Footscray as a diverse, vibrant and creative suburb.
The 15,000-square-metre facility replaces VU’s dated Maribyrnong Student Village, which was closed earlier this year.
The new building is a partnership between VU and international philanthropists John and Marcy McCall MacBain, through their Foundation that supports education projects around the world.
The Foundation’s investment company, Pamoja Capital Australia Management, has provided funds for the project over 35 years, after which, the building ownership will revert fully to the University.
UniLodge@VU includes a range of apartments from private studios to six-bedroom apartments, fully-equipped with modern kitchens and bathrooms, beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs, balcony gardens, and common areas, as well as a café and convenience store .
Mr McCall MacBain will open the complex along with VU Vice-Chancellor Peter Dawkins. Other guests will include local MPs and Maribyrnong City councillors.
