Victoria University will officially announce its five year sponsorship of Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens on Friday 14th February at 11am.
This will be the first partnership between an Australian university and an elite women’s sporting team and highlights Victoria University’s ever growing status as Australia’s Sports University.
Victoria University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Dawkins said, “This partnership with Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens reinforces our commitment to women’s sport and our desire to offer opportunities for young sportswomen to excel.”
Well known sports commentator, Luke Darcy will MC the event. Best known for his insightful football commentary and as a former star player with the Western Bulldogs Football Club, Luke is also an experienced netball commentator having worked in the past with the ANZ Championship broadcast team.
Dr Susan Alberti AO, advocate for women’s sport will speak about the importance of supporting women’s sport in Australia: and Bianca Chatfield, captain of the Melbourne Vixens and vice-captain of the Australian Diamonds, will be the official ambassador and public face of the partnership.
Netball Victoria CEO, Michelle Plane said, “this partnership in many ways is a step towards continuing the growth of netball within our state and showcases the commitment of Victoria University to both the sport of netball and supporting women’s sport in this country.”

Professor Dawkins said, “Victoria University has a dedicated College of Sport and Exercise Science and sport is integrated into programs across the other University. We have the largest number of students enrolled in sport’s courses in Australia and world leading research facilities.
“Opportunities for our students to work with Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens will greatly enhance what we can offer. This unique partnership continues to strengthen our existing outstanding reputation in sport.”
