Renowned UK legal futurist Professor Richard Susskind OBE will speak about the future of the courts and legal services when he delivers the Sir Zelman Cowen Centenary Oration in Melbourne on Tuesday, 3 May.
Prof Susskind is a leading academic, author, lecturer, and independent adviser to major professional firms and to national governments. His main area of expertise is the future of professional service and, in particular, the way in which IT and the Internet are changing the work of lawyers.
Sir Zelman Cowen Centre Courts and Tribunals Academy Director Professor Kathy Laster said the legal community in Victoria was looking forward to being challenged and inspired by Prof Susskind.
“We are truly delighted that such a highly regarded innovator and thought-leader as Professor Susskind will deliver the Sir Zelman Cowen Centenary Oration on the future of the courts and legal services,” Prof Laster said.
“The future of the courts and legal services is the raison d'être of the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre Courts and Tribunals Academy and we can think of no more timely a topic or better qualified a speaker to address the legal community in Victoria as we celebrate the centenary of Victoria University.”
“Courts and tribunals are under increasing pressure to do much more with much less and we expect Professor Susskind will provide us with challenges, inspiration and practical direction as we all seek to address this ongoing challenge to the Australian legal system and the wider community it seeks to serve.”
