World Congress on Science and Football 2019

Tuesday 4 June 2019 to Friday 7 June 2019

Victoria University’s Institute for Health and Sport is hosting the World Congress on Science and Football (WCSF) 2019.

Held every four years, the WCSF is a scientific forum where 350+ international researchers and practitioners from all football codes can present their recent work. It includes four days of keynote presentations, parallel stream sessions, exhibits, tours, awards and workshops.

The key discussion themes for 2019 are:

  • player health and wellbeing
  • the socio-cultural worlds of football
  • the future of football
  • analytics and statistics
  • elite academies: challenges, controversies, successes
  • player training and monitoring
  • refereeing
  • football is medicine
  • technology in sport
  • coaching – exploring the science and practice of coaching.

Keynote presenters

Professor Geir Jordet

Professor Geir Jordet of the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences will present on his recent work examining visual scan patterns in top European football clubs and leagues, as well as his work in virtual reality.

Professor Kevin Norton

Professor Kevin Norton of the University of South Australia will present the Tom Reilly Tribute Lecture. Professor Norton has been a Professor of Exercise Science for almost 25 years and has over 200 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals in sport and exercise science, and health promotion.
