Illuminate your winter with the West Projections Festival, featuring projections, performances and walking tours across Melbourne’s inner west from 9 to 18 August.

Now in its sixth year, the 2019 Festival takes place in Footscray, Seddon and West Footscray and features over 40 artists across 38 locations.

Supermarkets, abandoned shopfronts, bars, restaurants, art spaces, laneways, Victoria University campuses and train stations are just some of the locations that will be transformed by projections, sound installations, and performances.

A public program of events is offered alongside a self-guided tour of the projection sites, and is tailored to families, local residents and visitors seeking out unique ways to discover Melbourne’s inner west.

West Projections Festival is proudly co-produced by Victoria University and Wynter Projects, supported by Maribyrnong City Council's Festival City and Victoria University Polytechnic. The Festival is sponsored by Two Birds Brewing, Lenovo Group, Benson Group and Seddon Community Bank.

Theme

In 2019, the Festival will delve into the theme of Home.

Home can be a place, a safe place, a house, apartment or other shelter. What makes a home? We share homes with families, lovers, friends and strangers. It can be a place of retreat and sanctuary or of shift and transition. Home is temporary for some and permanent for others. Domestic confines or domestic bliss. It can be a positive or negative space.

The artists involved have been invited to investigate their sense of place and their own definition of home using the eclectic canvas of Footscray, Seddon and West Footscray. Home will be illuminated in shopfronts, bars, artist galleries and studios, public spaces, Victoria University campuses and laneways.

West Projections Festival encourages audiences to explore their shared urban environment after dark.
