Monday 14 August 2017

Join us to watch a panel of experts discuss respectful relationships, Monday 14 August at Footscray Park campus.

This free event celebrates the launch of Women in Higher Education Week (Bluestockings) at Victoria University.

The discussion panel

Hosted by VU's Respect and Responsibility group, the panel includes experts in the fields of respectful relationships, sexual assault and bystander action.

Come and hear from members of Women’s Health West, WestCASA and Stephen Wilson Consulting.

  • Women’s Health West: The panellist will discuss how to address the drivers of violence against women by promoting equal and respectful relationships between young women and men.
  • WestCASA: The panellist will discuss the key drivers of sexual assault and the impacts of disrespectful relationships, asking the audience to consider the best response when someone comes to them having been sexually assaulted.
  • Stephen Wilson Consulting: A freelance bystander-action trainer, Stephen will discuss how an active bystander can intervene in relevant scenarios in ways that respect the victim.

What you will learn

At the event, we hope to leave staff and students with insight into:

  • what a respectful relationship is
  • the alarming statistics on sexual assault within relationships
  • how, as a bystander, you can intervene safely to build respectful relationships.
