Rainbow families seminar

Tuesday 16 May 2017

As part of Pride week (15-19 May), the VU Postgraduate Association (VUPA) presents this seminar on rainbow families.

Are we paving the road for rainbow families?

Join us on the eve of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) to listen to keynote speaker, the renowned Roz Ward, co-founder and manager of Safe Schools Coalition Victoria. Safe Schools has assisted hundreds of schools across the country in their efforts to actively promote safety and inclusion for the whole school community - particularly LGBTIQA+ young people.

Roz will share her way of thinking and share her story on how she persisted through homophobia and will deliver novel insights into equal opportunities and success within LGBTIQA+ rights. Think TedX with a VU twist!

This talk will be inspired by the IDAHOBIT theme of "families." We'll hear about Roz Ward's journey as an LGBTIQA+ researcher, her family journey and how the Safe Schools Coalition program supports families.

After her talk, the audience will have a unique opportunity for open dialogue with our keynote speaker.

Refreshments (food and wine) will be provided for networking before and after the seminar.

This event will be streamed live via the VUPA Facebook page. Make sure you like the page to view!

This event is free and open to all - VU students, staff and the wider community.
