Footscray Community Arts Centre is hosting a dance session with Afrobeat Royalty Yeni Kuti and Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Learn the rhythm and movement of African dance from Afrobeat royalty Yeni Kuti (aka YK Power), touring all the way from Nigeria.

The eldest daughter of legendary music artist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Yeni will be sharing her unique wisdom and style of dance with the Footscray community this spring. Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from a world-renowned dancer and choreographer.

Open to all ages, levels and abilities.

About the tutor

Oluwayeni Anikulapo-Kuti is a dancer, singer and descendant of the Ransome-Kuti family. She pioneered the idea of Felabration, a music festival conceived to celebrate the life and contributions of her father Fela Kuti to the Nigerian society.

Born in England, Yeni was born as the first child to Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and to a British mother. In 1986, she joined her brother Femi Kuti’s band as a singer and dancer after dropping her job as a fashion designer. She currently serves as a co-manager of the New Afrika Shrine alongside Femi.
