Join us in celebrating Pride Week (15-19 May) with a special panel discussion on Wednesday 17 May, marking the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

Hosted by the VU's Ally Network and College of Sport & Exercise Science, the panel includes some of Australia's leading researchers, educators, sports administrators and equal opportunity/inclusion advocates – most hailing from Victoria University.

They will be discussing the IDAHOBIT topic of "Proactive inclusive practices" - promoting inclusion for LGBTIQ & gender diverse people in sport and physical education.

At this event we will also be launching VU's LGBTIQ+ and Gender Diverse Inclusion Action Plan 2017-2018. The plan will be launched by Shaun Eltham, Vice President of People and Culture, VU.

The panel includes:

  • Associate Professor Caroline Symons: recent Deputy Dean of the College of Sport & Exercise Science and multi-award winning researcher and advocate on LGBTIQ sport inclusion
  • Ryan Storr: PhD student in the College of Sport & Exercise Science and co-founder of Proud 2 Play, a new Melbourne based LGBTIQ sport charity which focuses on creating opportunities for young people in sport
  • Loretta Konjarski: course leader of Physical education in the College of Sport & Exercise Science, and an award-winning educator on inclusive pedagogy and practice in physical education
  • Jordan Fenton: policy advisor and researcher at the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission; she has recently completed a guide on how to respectfully report on gender identity, as well as the Commission's revised guidelines on trans and gender diverse inclusion in sport. Jordan also sits on the board of Proud 2 Play and is keen to ensure the lived experiences and marginalised voices are always considered and heard
  • Maxwell Gratton: CEO of Football Federation Victoria (FFV), VU Alumni Award Winner and first openly gay man to lead one of the largest and most influential sports organisation in Victoria

This is a free event open to all VU staff, students and the community. Afternoon tea will be provided, including rainbow cupcakes at the VU bar outside the lecture theatre.

Please RSVP for catering purposes to [email protected].
