    Overview

Legal, ethical and quality frameworks inform, guide, constrain and expand professional work in early childhood education. This unit will introduce students to the National Quality Framework and its laws, regulations and curriculum documents, and to other rights-based and ethical charters utilised by the early childhood education sector to guide decision making in practice. These frameworks are the building blocks of early childhood education practice. This unit will support students to develop a basic conceptual knowledge of these documents and use them to make decisions in a range of early childhood contexts and scenarios. Through this unit, students will begin informed and reflective educative practices as they move through their course.

    Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Determine necessary information to support decision making in the law, regulations, rights and ethics frameworks, and child safe standards used within the early childhood sector.
    2. Develop a conceptual understanding of the curriculum frameworks used in early childhood education: the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
    3. Apply the 5 learning outcomes in the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework to making decisions in a variety of early childhood contexts.
