Overview

This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to undertake levelling and alignment measurements/readings and perform levelling and/or alignment and adjustment tasks on machines and engineering components.

It applies to the setting up and use of precision levelling and alignment devices and where all adjustments are performed according to designated procedures in conformance to specifications.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • following work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices;
  • identifying and interpreting specifications, charts, lists and drawings to perform levelling and alignment of machines and engineering components;
  • selecting appropriate levelling and/or alignment procedure in accordance with task requirements;
  • selecting appropriate levelling and alignment devices/equipment appropriate to the task, and;
  • performing levelling/alignment tasks, including levelling or alignment calculations, using appropriate tools, equipment and techniques to specifications.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Polytechnic and/or via the Polytechnic e-learning system.
